Code of Conduct

Based on the CoC of Hack && Tell

This document governs the conduct that is expected of all participants on all Loophole Labs, Inc. properties. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Articles submitted to loopholelabs.io;
  • Responses to articles on loopholelabs.io;
  • Chat messages in the Loophole Labs Discord server, even in private conversations.

We want our communities to be fun, safe, and welcoming for everyone. Because we all come from different backgrounds, we want to be concrete about what sorts of behaviors jeopardize the warmth of these communities—and are therefore unacceptable.

Social Rules

An important part of removing obstacles to a great community is having a small set of social rules. These are originally forked from The Recurse Center’s manual:

  • No feigning surprise.
  • No well-actually’s.
  • No subtle -isms.

Subtle -isms are small things that make others feel uncomfortable—things that we all sometimes do by mistake. For example, saying "It's so easy my grandmother could do it" is a subtle -ism. Like the other rules, it's often accidentally broken. This is not a big deal—just apologize and move on.

Harassment

We do not tolerate harassment in any form.

Reporting

If you are being harassed, notice someone else being harassed, or have any other concerns:

  • Immediately contact a moderator—either message one of us in chat or send an email to [email protected].
  • You don't need to be the target of harassment to speak up. Making this community better is everyone's responsibility.
  • If an incident is reported during a Loophole Labs stream, moderators can help you contact the platform or even local law enforcement, or otherwise assist to ensure safety for the duration of the stream.
  • Confidentiality requests are respected to protect victims. At our discretion, we may:
    • Publicly name someone about whom we've received harassment complaints
    • Privately warn third parties
    • But we will not name harassment victims without their affirmative consent.

Consequences

  • Users asked to stop harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.
  • If harassment continues, moderators may take appropriate action—including expulsion from the community, and publicly identifying the harasser if deemed necessary.
